Retin-A (tretinoin) Cream and Gel is a form of Vitamin A used for the topical treatment of acne vulgaris. It is also used for an anti-aging, to improve wrinkles, dark spots and can be used in combination with Medical-grade Microneedling. How to use and apply tretinoin: Gently wash and pat dry your skin. Wait 20 to 30 minutes for your skin to dry completely. Then, place about a half-inch or less of tretinoin onto your fingertip. For the Altreno lotion pump, press down fully on the plunger once. This amount should be enough to cover your entire face. Lightly dab the medication onto your forehead, chin, and both cheeks. Then, spread it over your entire face. Stay away from the corners of your nose, mouth, eyes, and any open wounds to prevent skin irritation from the medication. As you continue to use tretinoin, you can adjust the amount of medication you use to fit your needs. You’ll know you’re using too much if the medication doesn’t disappear into your skin right after you rub it in gently. It’s common for your acne to worsen during the first 3 to 6 weeks of using tretinoin. The medication is working in the deep layers of your skin. This can cause inflammation (swelling) and new pimples to form. You might feel a warm or slightly stinging sensation when you apply tretinoin to your skin. This is normal, but if it's too bothersome, let your healthcare provider know. You might have to temporarily stop the medication or use a lower dose. You might notice peeling and skin discomfort when you first start tretinoin, but it usually goes away within 2 to 4 weeks. Your skin color might also become lighter or darker, but it should go back to normal with time or once you stop using the medication. Use a daily sunscreen , regardless if you are in direct sunlight or not. Moisturizer after applying Retin-A can also assist in keeping the skin from reacting and having harsh peeling.
